I Copied Agent Carter’s Vintage Makeup Look with 6 Simple Products

You don’t have to be a comic book connoisseur to agree that Hayley Atwell’s Agent Peggy Carter is one of the strongest heroines in the Marvel universe. Not only is she brave and headstrong, she is a total badass.

The first time I was introduced to her character in Captain America: The First Avenger and then her spin-off TV series Agent Carter, I became obsessed. Although Agent Carter was cancelled, its portrayal of strong female roles has had a lasting impact on fans. I love that she constantly challenged the way women are seen in the military as well as in the media.

I’d gladly jump at any chance to copy the confidence she exudes, which is why I decided to copy her signature vintage makeup look. Here’s how you can copy her retro beauty routine using high quality,  inexpensive drugstore makeup products. Blazer not included.

1. Kill two birds with one stone by applying a concealer/foundation duo

Although I live by my concealer, I don’t wear foundation often. When I first started experimenting with different foundations, I struggled with finding one that perfectly blended in with my skin tone without feeling too heavy.  Stila’s Stay All Day® Foundation & Concealer quickly changed my mind. I love that it already has concealer built in and cuts off a solid five minutes from my morning beauty routine.

2. Give your brows a major lift with a little wax and powder

Why pay a lot of money to get your brows done when you can do them on your own for three bucks? e.l.f.’s brow kit comes complete with pigmented wax and setting powder which work together to define and thicken your brows. The best part is that you can pick up this kit online or at your local drugstore.

3. This smoky eye shadow stick does all the hard work so you don’t have to

Peggy Carter is known for her minimalist eye shadow and red, red lips. Although it’s a little difficult to see in pictures, I decided on a natural smoky eye. Problem is I am the absolute worst when it comes to getting the right blend! This shadow stick made the process easier and quicker.

4. Lights, camera, action! Use liquid liner to bring attention to your eyes

1950s beauty was all about dramatic lines and bold lashes. This was the step that terrified me the most. I have a very complicated relationship with eye liner. I don’t wear it enough for me to warrant splurging on it. Finding a liquid liner that was easy to apply and only cost two bucks was a huge success (and relief) for me!

5. Find a red that makes you feel like royalty

Hollywood, eat your heart out. If you had to describe Peggy Carter using one makeup product, this would be it. The Stunna Lip Paint looks amazing on all skin tones and plays up your natural lip shape. Here’s a quick tip: Hayley Atwell has a very defined Cupid’s bow. Use a lip liner in a similar shade to add more shape to your lips and make them look super plump.

6.Leave the world blushing by adding color to your face

Finish off your vintage makeup look with a little blush. Your goal is to apply a subtle amount for it to look natural but to still stand out. Although I have darker skin, I’m amazed at how well I actually pulled this ombre blush off! It compliments my skin perfectly without being too in-your-face.

She is definitely a strong female! No need for any fancy makeup, she exudes confidence without much of it. You’re so right. That red lip paint you chose is so gorgeous!

Wow! I wish I could have a talent likes your when putting on a make up. I just usually use a powder and lipstick to give life to my face. I like Peggy Carter. I think you have a strong personality too just like her.

Great job! You look stunning! I am always afraid to use bright lipstick myself. My lips are really thin, so I just feel sort of strange. XD Guess the vintage fashions probably wouldn’t have been to flattering on me.

Everything just stops at the red lipstick. Red lipstick was such a signature statement that all women wore back then. The old ways is sometimes the best ways.

I’m more into eye liner and lipstick but in general I’m not really into it and in my opinion its a great skill to mix colors in makeup and do it very easily. Well done

Very classy and elegant look. And even though I’m not big on makeup, I find that a lipstick always completes the look. And you look great!
